GUSS - Geek Ultimate Spam Solution
Welcome to our solution for the filtering of your SPAM!

Each filtering level we offer has its own way of catching unwanted email. But, before we get to the levels, let's go over some basic SPAM lingo:

  • White List – One White List will be created for all of the e-mail addresses you have listed under your domain name. By adding an e-mail address to a White List you are saying it is ok for that sender to send to you. It will bypass all levels of spam filtering except Level's 0 and Level A. Any mailing lists you are on will need to be added to your White List.

  • Black List – One Black List will be created for all of the e-mail addresses you have listed under your domain name. By adding an e-mail address to a Black List you are saying you never want to receive e-mail from that sender again.

  • *Quarantine* – Messages that are considered SPAM. Depending which levels of spam filtering are turned on you may or may not end up with messages in quarantine. Quarantined messages will only remain on the e-mail servers for 16 days from the date the message is received. These messages will be listed in an e-mail for you..

Now let's talk levels:

Level 0 – Global Protection
  • Checks that the e-mail recipient exists.
  • Checks for attempts to relay messages using GID mail servers.
  • Checks for forgery attempts by the sending mail servers.
  • Checks Sender Policy Framework records to validate the sending mail server.
  • Included with your website hosting at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.
  • E-mails are automatically deleted.
Level A – Antivirus Protection
  • Checks if the e-mail contains a virus.
  • Included with your website hosting at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.
  • E-mails are automatically deleted.
Level B – Greylisting
  • Provides protection from “point and shoot” spam mail systems.
    • Requires the “triple” to remain consistent for a 45 minute period.
    • The “triple” consists of the sending mail server’s address, the sender’s e-mail address, and the recipient’s e-mail address.
  • Greylisting only applies to triples that have not been previously verified.
    • Once the triple is verified, the information is automatically whitelisted for a 30 days.
  • E-mails are automatically deleted.
Level C – Malformed Mail Headers
  • Checks the structure of an e-mail message for anything out of the ordinary or suspicious.
  • E-mails are automatically quarantined for 16 days.
Level D – Deny Foreign Countries
  • The sending mail server is located in a foreign country.
  • The sender’s e-mail addresses is located in a foreign country ((i.e. - .uk, .fr, .tm, .vu, etc.).
  • Individual countries can be allowed without allowing all foreign countries.
  • E-mail is quarantined for 16 days.
Level E – Blocked Executable Attachments
  • Checks any attachments for executable code.
  • Checks the contents of compressed files (ZIP files) for executable code.
  • E-mail is quarantined for 16 days.
Level F – Block ALL Attachments
  • Checks for the presence of any attachment regardless of type.
  • E-mail is quarantined for 16 days.
Level G – Removed Redundant/Malformed MIME Parts
  • Checks for redundant parts of the message and removes them.
    • For example, some mail programs will send the contents of the message in HTML format and plain text format in the same message.  When this happens, one of the parts is removed since they are the same.
  • E-mails are neither quarantined nor deleted.
Level H – Clean Up of HTML Mail
  • Checks HTML formatted messages for attempts to harm your computer.
  • If something harmful is found, it is either disabled or removed from the HTML.
    • This may cause messages to appear strange when viewed in your mail program.
  • E-mails are neither quarantined nor deleted.
Level I – Text Parsing
  • Checks the content of the message for known spam tactics and known spam messages.
  • Checks the content of the message against known spam messages.
  • This level can cause false positives.
  • E-Mails are quarantined for 16 days.
Level J -- SMTP Sender Validation
  • Our mail server tries to send a message to the sender’s e-mail address to validate the sender is reachable
  • E-Mails are quarantined for 16 days.

NOTE: We do not recommend turning on all of the levels at one time. A representative will contact you to discuss setting up your whitelist.

COSTS:

  • Levels 0, A and J are included in your hosting package at no additional charge.

  • There is a one-time setup charge of $20 and an ongoing fee of $3 per month ($36/year) to turn on levels C through I.

  • Because it requires more personal support, Level B has an additional $10 setup charge and then is $5 per month ($60/year).
